Details:
On Wednesday, August 25, 2021, at 9:40 P.M., Task Force Officers from Region 6 Perris / Lake Elsinore attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a suspected Driving Under the Influence (DUI) driver in the 500 block of Tomahawk Road, in the city of Perris. The vehicle fled and a pursuit was initiated. As the vehicle fled from Task Force Officers, the vehicle failed to stop at several stop signs, nearly struck parked vehicles, and drove into opposing lanes of traffic with wanton disregard for public safety.
During the pursuit, the driver identified as Kerry Williams, a 36-year-old resident of Perris, discarded a firearm from the driver’s window. Williams fled to the 23000 block of Bellamo Lane, where he exited his vehicle while it was still moving. A foot pursuit ensued, and Williams was subsequently apprehended. Task Force Officers subsequently recovered a loaded 9mm firearm discarded by Williams during the pursuit.
Williams was taken into custody and charged with Felony Reckless Evading, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Felon in Possession of ammunition, and Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol. Williams was booked into the Cois Byrd Detention Center.
The Perris-Lake Elsinore Regional Gang Task Force is committed to creating safe and secure neighborhoods free of violent crime and gang activity. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Deputy Brian Hinkle at (951) 210-1000.
