On Friday, March 11, 2022, at 9:30 P.M. the Coachella Valley Violent Crime Gang Task Force with the assistance of Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Special Enforcement Bureau and Indian Wells Special Enforcement Team, served a weapons related search warrant at a business located in the 73000 block of Highway 111 in Palm Desert and at a hotel located in the 44000 block of Indian Wells Lane in Indian Wells. During the service of the search warrants, Gang Task Force Officers located multiple illegally possessed firearms including two 9mm semi-auto handguns, one .45 caliber semi-auto handgun and one fully automatic rifle. The rifle was determined to be an unserialized firearm or what is commonly referred to as a “Ghost Gun.” Gang Task Force Officers arrested Gabriel Miralez, 19 of Thermal and Reynaldo Olea, 20 of Indio. Olea is a documented criminal street gang member. Both subjects were charged with Possession of a Prohibited Firearm, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, Possession of an Unserialized Firearm or “Ghost Gun”, Possession of a Machine Gun and Possession of High-Capacity Magazines. Both Miralez and Olea were booked at John Benoit Detention Center in Indio.
