Riverside County Sheriff's Department Press Release

Reporting Deputy: Sergeant Chad Craig

File # MV221050097

Details:

On April 15, 2022, about 9:44 AM deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, Moreno Valley Station, responded to the report of a major-injury traffic collision at the intersection of Heacock Street and Sandbow Street, in the city of Moreno Valley. Deputies arrived on-scene to find a pedestrian was struck by a black Hyundai Kona. The pedestrian suffered severe, life threatening injuries, and was declared deceased at the scene. The Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station Traffic Collision Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. The investigation revealed the Hyundai was traveling southbound on Heacock Street when the pedestrian began crossing the street eastbound at the intersection of Sandbow Street. The pedestrian was subsequently struck by the Hyundai. That intersection is uncontrolled and does not have a marked crosswalk.

The identities of the involved parties, including the deceased, will not be released pending further investigation and notification to the next of kin. At this time, alcohol and/or drugs are not considered a factor in the collision. A temporary closure of Heacock Street, between Parkland Avenue and Gregory Lane, was required in order to process the scene and collect evidence.
