Riverside County Sheriff's Department Press Release

Reporting Deputy: Sergeant Robert Grmusha

File # N/A

Details:

Moreno Valley, Calif. – On April 29, 2022, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station, will be on the look-out for drivers suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department is dedicated to keeping the public safe and urges people to stay at home or use a designated sober driver if you plan to drink, use marijuana or certain other medications and drugs.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department reminds the public that impaired driving is not just from alcohol. Marijuana, prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs can also impair a person’s ability to operate a motor vehicle, especially in combination with alcohol and other drugs. Do your research and understand how certain drugs you are taking may affect your driving ability.

Always follow the directions for medication use and read warning labels about driving a motor vehicle or operating heavy machinery. While medicinal and recreational marijuana use is legal, driving under the influence of marijuana is not.

If you plan on drinking or taking medications that may impact your ability to drive safely, plan on staying at home or plan for a designated driver ahead of time.

Drivers found to be impaired while driving, can be arrested and charged with a DUI, resulting in an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, in addition to a suspended license.

Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Highway Patrol.
