Riverside County Sheriff's Department Press Release

Reporting Deputy: Lieutenant Howard Hibbler

File # MV221590342

Details:

On June 8, 2022, at 6:42 pm, deputies from the Moreno Valley Station responded to a residence in the 12000 block of Carnation Lane regarding an injury sustained from the illegal lighting of a firework. The investigation revealed that a 36-year old male resident of Moreno Valley lit a “mortar” type firework, which exploded in his hand, causing severe burns and the loss of several fingers. The victim was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment and is expected to survive.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department would like to remind everyone that all fireworks, including sparklers, are illegal in Moreno Valley. Fireworks can start fires and cause serious injuries, so please celebrate safely. Deputies are dedicated to keeping the public safe and will be out enforcing violations of firework laws on the days leading up to, and after, the Fourth of July. If you light it, we’ll write it! As a way to celebrate responsibly, the city of Moreno Valley will host a family fun fest, including a parade, entertainment, and fireworks at the new Civic Center Amphitheater. For more information, visit the Moreno Valley Parks 4th of July Activities page.
