Details:

On May 31, 2022, at 6:54 PM, Thermal Station patrol deputies responded to the 52700 block of Genoa Drive, in the city of Coachella, in reference to a shooting between three subjects. A residence and multiple vehicles were struck, but no injuries were reported. The investigation was assumed by the Thermal Station Investigations Bureau.

During the investigation, the suspects were positively identified as Issac Vargas, a 22-year-old resident of Coachella, Caillou Renteria, a 20-year-old resident of Coachella, and a 16-year-old juvenile of Coachella.

On June 21, 2022, at 8:50 AM, the 16-year-old juvenile was located at his residence, in the 48100 block of La Playa, in the city of Coachella. With the assistance of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team, the Thermal Stations Investigations Bureau, served a search warrant at the residence and the juvenile was taken into custody without incident. The juvenile was booked at the Juvenile Hall in the city of Indio, for attempt homicide. The juvenile was also wanted in connection with two additional shootings in the city of Coachella. Additional charges will be filed with the Juvenile Probation Department.

On June 21, 2022, at 5:20 PM, Caillou Renteria, was located at his residence, in the 49400 block of Tulipan Street, in the city of Coachella. The Thermal Station Investigations Bureau served a search warrant at the residence and Renteria was taken into custody without incident. Renteria was booked at the John Benoit Detention Center for attempt homicide. Renteria was also wanted in connection with two additional shootings in the city of Coachella. Additional charges will be filed with the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office.

Issac Vargas, is currently in custody at the John Benoit Detention Center for an unrelated attempt homicide. Additional charges will be filled with the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office for his part in this shooting.
