[ARCHIVED] Fatal Traffic Collision

Riverside County Sheriff's Department Press Release

Reporting Deputy: Sergeant Robert Grmusha

File # MV221930233

Details:

On July 12, 2022, about 8:49 PM, deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, Moreno Valley Station, responded to the report of a major-injury traffic collision on Indian Street, north of Hemlock Avenue, in the city of Moreno Valley. Deputies arrived on-scene to find the collision involved, a black, 2005 Toyota Scion XB and a pedestrian in the roadway. The driver of the Toyota denied sustaining any injuries as a result of the collision; however, the pedestrian was found lying in the roadway without a pulse and suffering traumatic life-threatening injuries. Despite the life-saving measures attempted by deputies and CalFire, the pedestrian was declared deceased at the scene.

The Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station Traffic Collision Reconstruction Team responded to the location of the traffic collision and assumed the investigation. The preliminary investigation revealed the pedestrian was walking and pushing a cart northbound in the northbound lane of Indian Street, north of Hemlock Avenue. As the Toyota traveled northbound on Indian Street and approached the pedestrian from behind, the collision occurred, resulting in the immediate life-threatening injuries suffered by the pedestrian.

At the conclusion of the initial investigation, it was undetermined if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the collision pending toxicology results. The identities of the involved parties will not be released at this time pending further investigation and notification to next of kin.

The traffic collision investigation required the temporary closure of Indian Street, between Hemlock Avenue and Sinaloa Street, in order to process the scene and collect additional evidence.
