Firearm

In early April 2022, two Murrieta churches were vandalized with a large amount of graffiti causing several thousand dollars in damage. A detective from the Murrieta / Temecula Regional Gang Task Force began an investigation into these church crimes. During the investigation, detectives located two other businesses that had been vandalized with the same graffiti. One of the businesses was in Menifee and the other was in Lake Elsinore.

On May 5, 2022, Gang Task Force served a search warrant at a residence in Cedarpines, California, related to the graffiti investigation. 34-year-old Sean Harris, lived at the residence and was a suspect related to the vandalisms. Harris was in custody on unrelated robbery charges related to a Riverside Sheriff’s Department Southwest Station investigation. Graffiti evidence along with two firearms were located in Harris’ bedroom. As a result of the Cedarpines search warrant, Gang Task Force detectives were able to identify another suspect, 30-year-old Jacob Oberg.

On June 28, 2022, Gang Task Force detectives arrested Jacob Oberg on felony vandalism charges at a motel in Temecula. Gang task force detectives along with assistance from the Murrieta Police Department’s Community Policing Team then served a search warrant at Oberg’s apartment in Lake Elsinore. Additional graffiti related evidence was located in his apartment.

Handgun

Jacob Oberg was booked into Cois Byrd Detention Center on several felony charges related to the vandalism spree. Detectives will be filing additional vandalism and weapons charges against Sean Harris who is already in custody on unrelated robbery charges from the Temecula investigation.
