On Wednesday, July 5, 2023, at 12:29 a.m., deputies assigned to the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station responded to the 12000 block of Perris Boulevard, Moreno Valley, regarding an assault.
Deputies contacted the victim, who said she answered a knock at the door. When the victim opened the door, the suspect entered the house, began to strangle her, and knocked her to the floor.
While on scene, deputies received a separate call for service on the 24000 block of Eucalyptus Avenue, Moreno Valley, regarding another victim being found on the ground with injuries.
The male suspect approached the second victim and struck her in the head, causing her to fall to the ground.
The suspect continued to assault the victim until a good Samaritan distracted the suspect, who then fled. Evidence of a sexual assault was later found at the scene. Both victims were transported to a local hospital due to moderate injuries received while struggling with the suspect.
The investigation revealed the same suspect, Alex Soza, a 26-year-old resident of Moreno Valley, was responsible for both assaults. Investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Soza and were able to arrest him at his residence later that day. Soza was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center and charged with kidnapping, assault with intent to rape, assault with a deadly weapon, and elder abuse. He is being held with no bail.
