On Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at 11:51 p.m., deputies from the Thermal Sheriff's Station were dispatched to the 44000 block of Vista Dunes Lane, La Quinta, regarding an assault with a deadly weapon. Upon arrival, deputies located the suspect, who was armed with a knife. Multiple commands were given; however, the suspect failed to comply, and a deputy-involved shooting occurred.
The suspect was struck by gunfire, and deputies rendered medical aid until paramedics arrived. The suspect was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A knife was located at the scene. No deputies were injured during this incident, and the suspect’s identity will not be released at this time.
The involved deputy will be placed on paid administrative leave according to department policy. The investigation is ongoing, and no additional details will be released at this time.
