On December 19, 2019, the La Quinta Special Enforcement Team responded to a fraud in progress in the 78400 block of Highway 111, city of La Quinta. The team located the suspect, David Guzman, 43-years-old of Palm Desert, and took him into custody without incident. The investigation revealed Guzman was in possession of altered checks stolen from a residence in the city of Palm Desert, one of which he attempted to cash. He was transported to the Smith Correctional Facility for booking. During the booking process, 18 grams of methamphetamine was located concealed on his person. Additional charges for bring methamphetamine into a jail facility were added.
