On January 1, 2020, at 3:31 am, deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department responded to the area of Newport Road and Menifee Road, to investigate a single-vehicle traffic collision. Upon arrival, the investigating deputies discovered a 2004 Ford Mustang resting on its roof. The physical evidence led the deputies to conclude the driver of the Mustang was traveling westbound on Newport Road when he collided with the curb east of Menifee Road. The vehicle rolled over and landed in a ditch. The driver walked away from the crash but was located by deputies inside a nearby store. The driver, Samuel Casson, of Lakeside displayed objective symptoms of being under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested and booked at a local jail. Prior to booking Casson was taken to a local hospital for an ok-to-book.
