[ARCHIVED] Arrest for Child Endangerment and Assault with a Deadly Weapon

Details: 

On April 02, 2023, Thermal Station patrol units responded to the 79800 block of Highway 111, in the city of La Quinta, reference an assault with a deadly weapon. The investigation revealed two Hispanic male adults entered a restaurant in the area and pointed firearms at patrons inside, to include a 3-year-old child. The suspects fled the area in a light-colored SUV and a dark colored sedan. No one was injured and the restaurant was locked down until the deputies arrived on scene. The investigation was assumed by the Thermal Station Special Investigations Unit.

During the investigation, the suspects were positively identified as Ramiro Diaz, 24-years-old of Desert Hot Springs and Nicholas Diaz, 22-years-old of Indio. On April 08, 2023, the Special Investigations Unit located Nicholas Diaz in the 83000 block of Avenue 48, in the city of Coachella. Nicholas Diaz was apprehended without further incident.

With the assistance of the La Quinta Special Enforcement Team, The Special Investigation Unit, a search warrant was served in the 46500 block of Clinton Street in the city of Indio. Three firearms were located and collected as evidence.

The Special Investigation Unit served an additional search warrant in the 66300 block of Buena Vista, in the city of Desert Hot Springs. Ramiro Diaz was apprehended without further incident.

Ramiro Diaz was booked at the John Benoit Detention Center in the city of Indio, for Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Child Endangerment. Nicholas Diaz was booked at the John Benoit Detention Center in the city of Indio, for Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Child Endangerment, Felon in Possession of a Loaded Firearm, and Violation of Probation.
