La Quinta, Calif. – On May 19, 2023, one person was arrested for DUI, one person was arrested for public intoxication, one person was arrested for delaying or resisting a peace officer, two people were cited for outstanding warrants, and 5 people were cited for being an unlicensed driver, at a DUI checkpoint on May 19, 2023.
The DUI checkpoint was held at Washington Street and Highland Palms Drive from 6:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.
1,950 vehicles were contacted, 34 vehicles were subjected to secondary screening, and 15 field sobriety tests were conducted.
- Jacob Steven Cordova, 28 years of La Quinta, was arrested for DUI alcohol.
- Beverly Alexis Rojas, 32 years of La Quinta, was arrested for a domestic battery and failure to appear warrant.
- Hollyann Brown, 35 years of Palm Desert, was arrested for a narcotics warrant.
- John Bernard Robertson, 49 years of Lomita, was arrested for public intoxication.
- Donald Gene Readinger III, 52 years of La Quinta, was arrested for delaying or resisting a peace officer.

La Quinta, Calif. – On May 19th, 2023, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, city of La Quinta, will conduct a driving under the influence (DUI) Checkpoint on Washington Street from 5pm to 3am.
DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on data showing incidents of impaired driving-related crashes. The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints are to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off the road.
“Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk,” Deputy Robert Wiggs said. “Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improves traffic safety.”
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, city of La Quinta, reminds the public that impaired driving is not just from alcohol. Some prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs may interfere with driving. While medicinal and recreational marijuana are legal, driving under the influence of marijuana is illegal.
Drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.
