On May 21, 2023, at 5:19 p.m., personnel from the Riverside Sheriff’s Perris Station were dispatched to the 2500 block of Spectacular Bid Street in the city of Perris regarding an unresponsive juvenile, deputies and paramedics performed lifesaving measures and teen was transported to a local hospital. The case was immediately assumed by the Riverside Sheriff’s Office Overdose Death Investigations and Narcotics Unit. A few days later, the teen was pronounced deceased and the Sheriff’s Coroner’s Bureau determined they died as a result of fentanyl poisoning. Investigators worked to identify the suspect responsible for selling the fentanyl that killed the teen. As a result of their efforts, the suspect was identified as Daniel Ramirez, a 21-year-old resident of Perris.

On September 22, 2023, the investigation was presented to the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office. Charges were filed against Ramirez and a Ramey warrant was issued for murder. On September 25, 2023, personnel from the Gang Impact Team located Ramirez in the city of Moreno Valley and he was taken into custody without incident. A search warrant was executed at the 80 block of E. Jarvis Street in the city of Perris and investigators located narcotics indicative of sales. Ramirez was later booked into the Cois Byrd Detention Center for the murder of the teenager.

This investigation is ongoing, and anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact Deputy Shaffer at 951-955-1700. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind citizens of the dangers of illicit narcotics, many of which may contain fentanyl. Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is 100 times stronger than morphine and can cause death or serious bodily harm.
