The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office Southwest Station wants to make sure parents are aware that an “e-bike” without pedals is an electrical motorcycle and cannot be legally operated by unlicensed youth on public thoroughfares. To operate an electric motorcycle safely and legally on the roadway you need the following:

  • A valid motorcycle license issued by the DMV. 36% of motorcycle fatalities involve an unlicensed rider.
  • A DOT certified motorcycle helmet. 41% of motorcycle fatalities are not wearing a helmet.
  • Valid registration on the motorcycle. The motorcycle involved in this collision lacked basic safety equipment needed for roadway use.
  • Minimum liability motorcycle insurance
