On July 14, 2022, at 7:00 P.M., members of the Coachella Community Action Team (CCAT), with the assistance of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team, and the Southern Coachella Valley Community Service District Team, served a search warrant at a residence located in the 60-400 block of Jackson Street in the unincorporated community of Thermal. The search warrant was the culmination of a weapons investigation, CCAT was conducting, which resulted in the arrest of Miguel Torres, a 31-year-old resident of Thermal, for Possession of multiple California Non-Compliant Rifles, Possession of a Short-Barreled Rifle, Manufacturing Firearms, Possession of Multiple Non-Serialized Firearms (Commonly referred to as Ghost Guns), Possession of multiple High-Capacity Magazines, and Possession of a Firearm with a Threaded Barrel. During the investigation, CCAT members located twelve firearms, firearm parts, Jiggs which are used to manufacture firearms, high-capacity magazines, and a large amount of ammunition. Torres was subsequently booked at the John Benoit Detention Center in Indio.
