Hit and Run Collision Leaves Child Hospitalized

Update:

Upon further investigation into this collision, deputies determined the suspect vehicle was a 2023 Ram 1500. Deputies identified the driver of the Ram as Mlouie Qutami, a 29-year-old resident of Menifee. On Friday, March 1, 2024, deputies from the Perris Sheriff’s Station Traffic team received information on the whereabouts of Qutami; with the assistance of the Perris Sheriff’s Station Detective Bureau and Traffic Team, deputies located Qutami on the 24000 block of Hospitality Place, Murrieta, where he was taken into custody. Qutami was booked into county jail for hit and run resulting in injury, driving on a suspended license causing great bodily injury, and three outstanding felony warrants.

Details:

On Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at 6:36 p.m., deputies from the Perris Station Traffic Team responded to a report of a major injury collision near the intersection of W. 3rd Street and S. C Street, Perris. Deputies arrived within minutes and located a juvenile near the roadway suffering from major injuries. The juvenile was transported to the hospital by ambulance in critical condition. The vehicle involved in the collision fled prior to the deputies arriving on scene.

The preliminary investigation revealed a dark colored full-size truck collided into a parked vehicle a short distance away. As the truck began fleeing the initial collision scene, the truck then struck the juvenile as he was crossing the street with his family. The truck was last witnessed in the area of W. 4th Street and S. A Street. Witnesses and bystanders at the scene assisted the juvenile and called emergency services.
