On Saturday, September 26, 2020, at 2:21 A.M., the Moreno Valley Station’s Special Enforcement Team, served a search warrant at a residence in the 15000 block of Pepper Court, in the city of Moreno Valley. The search warrant stemmed from a traffic stop where Ricardo Cortez, a 26-year-old resident of Moreno Valley, and convicted felon was found in possession of a semi-automatic handgun with an altered serial number and narcotics. Ricardo Cortez was taken into custody without incident. A search warrant was served at Ricardo Cortez’s residence, and deputies located a second semi-automatic handgun with an altered serial number, a .22-caliber bolt action rifle, a 12-gauge sawed off shotgun, approximately 1,000 rounds of various calibers of ammunition, and narcotics. Ricardo Cortez was charged with Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Felon in Possession of Ammunition, and Under the Influence of Narcotics while Armed. Ricardo Cortez was booked at the Robert Presley Detention Center.
