Details:

On January 26, 2021, at 6:36 pm, Deputies assigned to the Perris Sheriff’s Station responded to the 26000 block of Steinhoff Ave., in the unincorporated area of Riverside County, regarding a disturbance call. While in route to the location, deputies received information that the reporting party’s estranged husband made threats to kill her. The reporting party also stated her estranged husband was in possession of a handgun and that she was inside her residence with her two children.

When deputies arrived, the suspect fired a handgun at them. At that time, a deputy involved shooting occurred. The suspect was struck by the deputy’s gunfire and ultimately succumbed to his injuries despite life saving attempts performed by the deputies and AMR personnel. No others were injured during this incident. There are no outstanding suspects and there is no danger to the public. A firearm was recovered at the scene. The suspect’s identity is being withheld at this time.

The deputies involved will be placed on administrative leave per Department policy. The involved deputies’ names will not be released at this time.

An Investigator from the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office will lead this investigation, aided by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Force Investigations Detail and Central Homicide Unit. This is an active and on-going investigation.
