Details:

On Sunday, March 21, 2021 at 9:13 am, Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Deputies from the Perris Station, were conducting a follow up investigation in the area of Bond Road and San Jacinto Avenue, reference a wanted suspect. While deputies were on the property of a residence in the 100 block of Bond Road, they were fired upon. At that time a deputy involved shooting occurred.

An officer help call was broadcasted to multiple law enforcement agencies. Surrounding agencies along with our Special Enforcement Bureau arrived on scene with multiple armored rescue vehicles. Armored rescue vehicles were used to extract multiple deputies who were pinned down on the property and unable to get to safety. One of our deputies, who had a nonlife threatening injury, was immediately transported to a local hospital for treatment. It was believed the armed suspect was barricaded inside the home. A perimeter was established around the residence and all surrounding homes were evacuated.

Several attempts were made to have the suspect exit. The Hazardous Device Team deployed a robot to make entry into the home. The robot located the adult male suspect deceased from a gunshot wound. The suspect’s identity is being withheld at this time. A handgun was located at the scene.

No other deputies were injured during this incident. There are no outstanding suspects and there is no threat to the public.

The involved deputies will be placed on administrative leave per Department policy. The names of the involved deputies will not be released at this time.

An Investigator from the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office will lead this investigation, aided by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Force Investigations Detail. This is an active and on-going investigation.
