Perris, California – The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office - Perris Station, along with our law enforcement partners from the California Highway Patrol, Irvine Police Department, La Habra Police Department, San Bernardino Police Department, Rialto Police Department, Chino Police Department, and Riverside County Sheriff’s Office - Jurupa Valley Station, held a Commercial Vehicle Checkpoint on Tuesday January 24, 2023, from 7:00 AM to 11:30 AM on Harley Knox Boulevard between Webster Avenue and Indian Avenue within the city of Perris. The operation yielded the following:

  1. 90 commercial vehicles inspected
  2. 22 citations issued
  3. 5 trucks placed out of service for safety violations
  4. 9 verbal warnings issued
  5. 1 logbook violation
  6. 1 motor carrier permit violation
  7. 2 registration violations
  8. 2 declared weight violations
  9. 2 driver’s license violations
  10. 1 insurance violation
  11. 4 brake violations
  12. 8 lighting violations
  13. 1 steering violation
  14. 4 tire violations
  15. 3 load securement violations
  16. 1 connection device violation
  17. 1 frame/suspension violation
  18. 1 unsafe vehicle violation
  19. 4 miscellaneous violations
  20. 1 overweight violation (27,500 lbs. overweight)

This joint operation helped to prevent traffic collisions and incidents attributed to mechanical defects, overweight or unsecure loads, and excessive driving hours, involving commercial vehicles outlined in California Vehicle Code section 34500.

This type of operation helps to ensure drivers operating commercial vehicles with a gross weight rating of 10,001 pounds or more are in compliance with the provisions of the California Vehicle Code, Title 13 California Code of Regulations (T-13 CCR), Title 49 Code of Federal Regulations (T-49 CFR), as well as other statutes and regulations relating to the safe and lawful operation of commercial vehicles on the roadways located within the city of Perris.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office - Perris Station Traffic Bureau is continuing its public awareness and enforcement with the intent to reduce the number of injury and fatal traffic collisions involving commercial vehicles operating within the city of Perris in an unsafe condition.
