On March 05, 2023, several concerned citizens notified the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station of a social media post threatening violence at either Moreno Valley High School or Vista del Lago High School.
On March 07, 2023, a second suspect posted a similar message on social media claiming these two schools were still not safe.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office takes these incidents seriously and extra precautions were taken to ensure the safety of the students and residents of Moreno Valley. Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station mobilized extra Patrol, Traffic, SET Team, and SRO Units to provide enhanced security for these locations.
While reacting to these threats, the Moreno Valley School Resource Officers (SRO), in cooperation with the Moreno Valley Unified School District, worked diligently to identify the persons who posted these threats. After many work hours and several search warrants for electronic data, the suspects were identified as two 14-year-old juveniles.
On March 16, 2023, the Moreno Valley SRO Unit arrested and booked the juveniles into Juvenile Hall for criminal threats.
The Moreno Valley SRO Unit, POP Team, and SET Team served two residential search warrants simultaneously on the juveniles' residence for weapons and/or evidence of the crime.
