Reporting Deputy: Sergeant Fitzgerald

File # MV231080151

Details:

On Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at 11:45 AM, deputies from the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station responded to Pigeon Pass Road and Ironwood Avenue regarding a stolen vehicle. Deputies located the vehicle, occupied by two subjects, and attempted to stop it. The driver, later identified as Corey Summerville, an 18-year-old black male from Moreno Valley, refused to stop, and a pursuit was initiated. The pursuit continued onto Highway 60 and into the city of Jurupa Valley.

While on Highway 60, deputies lost sight of Summerville and canceled the pursuit. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) located the vehicle traveling westbound on Highway 60. Summerville exited at Rubidoux Boulevard and was involved in a traffic collision. Summerville was taken into custody at the scene.

An un-serialized handgun was located in the driver's area of the vehicle with a loaded magazine nearby. The passenger, a 17- year-old black male from Los Angeles, fled on foot and was later located hiding in the bushes on the side of the highway.

Summerville and the juvenile were transported to a local area hospital for the injuries they suffered as a result of the traffic collision. Deputies later discovered the juvenile was reported as missing from the Los Angeles area. The juvenile was released to Los Angeles County Child Protective Services. Summerville will be booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center for felony evading, felony child endangerment, possession of an unregistered firearm, and possession of a stolen vehicle.
