Details:

On September 1, 2023, at 4:59 p.m., deputies from the Moreno Valley Station received a call of a major injury traffic collision on Ironwood Avenue, just west of Heacock Street. Deputies, along with paramedics from CalFire, responded within minutes and located a severely injured pedestrian laying in the roadway, who had been struck by a vehicle. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene by CalFire Paramedics. The Moreno Valley Traffic Investigations Team responded and assumed the investigation.

A preliminary investigation revealed the vehicle was traveling westbound on Ironwood Avenue, when the pedestrian stepped out into the roadway, crossing into the westbound lanes of traffic, and was struck by the vehicle. It is unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision. The driver, and sole occupant of the vehicle, was uninjured. He remained at the scene of the collision and was cooperative with the investigation.
