Details:

On October 21, 2023, about 6:44 p.m., deputies from the Riverside Sheriff’s Perris Station, responded to the intersection of Evans Road and Whispering Wood Lane, Perris, regarding a report of a major injury traffic collision. Deputies arrived on scene and located the driver of a 2020 Honda Fit unresponsive inside the vehicle. The driver sustained fatal injuries and was declared deceased at the scene by Cal-Fire personnel. The second vehicle involved, a 2008 Nissan Pathfinder, was located north of the collision along Evans Road with major front end damage. The driver of the Nissan fled the scene.

The Perris Station Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. The investigation revealed the Honda was stopped at the stop sign on westbound Whispering Wood Lane preparing to turn south onto Evans Road. As the Honda proceeded to make the turn, the Nissan traveling northbound on Evans Road failed to stop at the stop sign and the two vehicles collided in the intersection. The driver of the Nissan fled on foot immediately after the collision, and has not been located. This investigation is ongoing.

The identity of the deceased will not be released pending further investigation and notification to the next of kin. A temporary road closure of Evans Road between Ramona Expressway and Morgan Street was required in order to process the scene and collect evidence.

Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to call Deputy Jess Kiebach of the Perris Sheriff’s Station at 951–210–1000 or the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office at 951–776–1099.
