On Friday, October 20, 2023, at 11:55 a.m., deputies from the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station responded to a business, located on the 14000 block of Moreno Beach Drive, Moreno Valley regarding an attempted bank robbery. Upon arriving, deputies learned the suspect passed a note to a bank teller, demanded money, and stated he was armed with a gun. The suspect fled the location prior to deputies arrival and was unsuccessful in obtaining money from the bank. Investigators from the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station responded to the bank and assumed the investigation. Investigators learned an hour prior, that another attempted bank robbery occurred in the city of Riverside under similar circumstances.
With the assistance of the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station Special Enforcement Team, the suspect was identified as being Brenden Jones 20-year-old resident of Hemet. On October 31, 2023, investigators from the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station and Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station Special Enforcement Team located Jones in the city of Hemet, where he was taken into custody without incident.
Jones was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center for the attempted bank robbery, where he is being held on $100,000 bail. It is believed Jones may have committed similar robberies in the area.
