Riverside County Sheriff-Press Release

Reporting Deputy: Lieutenant Brandi Swan

File # MV233160413

Details:

On November 12, 2023, at 10:32 PM, deputies from the Moreno Valley Station responded to a residential neighborhood in the 24000 block of Fir Avenue to investigate an armed robbery with a firearm. The investigation revealed that a male victim listed his PlayStation 5 (PS5) gaming console for sale on a popular mobile-friendly platform designed to help you buy and sell items locally (OfferUp). The victim arranged to meet with a potential buyer in the neighborhood, and when the potential buyer arrived, he and two friends demanded the gaming console from the victim at gunpoint. The suspects ultimately removed the PS5 from the trunk of the victim’s vehicle and pistol-whipped the victim before fleeing the location on foot. The victim sustained minor injuries.

The suspects are described as three adult males wearing all black clothing with ski masks and carrying a black firearm. The suspects were unknown to the victim and the app-based messages between the suspect and the victim are no longer accessible. A canvass of the neighborhood was conducted in an attempt to locate the suspects or the property, but was unsuccessful. Deputies are checking nearby homes and businesses for surveillance cameras.

We are seeking the public’s help with identifying any suspects involved. If you have any information about this robbery or captured the incident on your home surveillance cameras, please contact Deputy Velasquez of the Moreno Valley Station by calling 951-486-6700.

As a reminder, a Safe Swap Zone has been set up in the parking lot of the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station, located at 22850 Calle San Juan De Los Lagos, Moreno Valley.  This zone is outfitted with a camera and is located in a highly visible location directly in front of the lobby of the station. This swap zone provides residents with another option to safely buy and sell items and provides another place for visitation exchanges of children in families with custodial arrangements. It is generally not a good idea to conduct business late at night in poorly lit areas without surveillance cameras.
