On November 15, 2023, at 5:24 AM, deputies from the Moreno Valley Station responded to a report of a carjacking by gunpoint in the parking lot of an apartment complex is the 13000 block of Chagall Court. The victim was inside his vehicle in the parking lot when an adult male suspect armed with a handgun, ordered him out of the car. The victim complied with the order and exited the vehicle without being harmed. The suspect drove off in the victim’s vehicle and out of sight. Responding deputies observed a vehicle matching the description traveling at a high rate of speed in the area of Cottonwood Avenue and Perris Boulevard. By the time deputies were able to catch up, the vehicle had collided with a chain-link fence on Alessandro Boulevard, east of Perris Boulevard, and the suspect had fled the disabled vehicle on foot. Despite the assistance from our department helicopter, bloodhound, and patrol service dog, the suspect eluded capture and was not located. A handgun believed to have been used in the carjacking was recovered at the scene.
