File # MV233260252

Details:

On November 22, 2023, at 9:00 p.m., deputies from the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station responded to a report of a carjacking in the 24000 block of Sunnymead Boulevard, Moreno Valley. The victim had exited the business and was in the parking lot when an adult male suspect pointed what appeared to be a handgun at him and ordered him to walk to the victim’s vehicle. The victim complied with the order and entered the driver seat of his vehicle with the suspect in the passenger seat. The suspect continued to point the handgun at the victim and ordered him to drive onto the 60 Freeway. The victim initially complied; however, he later physically fought back and escaped from the vehicle. The suspect drove away in possession of the victim’s vehicle. The victim sustained minor injuries while escaping his captor.

At 11:30 p.m., deputies assigned to the Perris Sheriff’s Station located the victim’s vehicle near Perris Boulevard & Harley Knox Road, Perris. Deputies conducted a high-risk traffic stop and detained the lone occupant, Jesus Gaytan, a 47-year-old resident of Moreno Valley, without incident. Deputies also located a sizeable amount of methamphetamine on Gaytan’s person. A B.B. handgun believed to have been used in the carjacking was located within the vehicle. Jesus Gaytan was later booked at the Robert Presley Detention Center on charges of carjacking and drug possession.
