Update:

The Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station’s Investigations Bureau assumed the investigation and identified the suspect as Christian Chavez, a 36-year-old resident of San Pedro. On January 25, 2024, at about 2:00 p.m., deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office’s Fugitive Warrant Enforcement Team assisted the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station’s Investigations Bureau in serving a search warrant at a residence in the 900 block of West Channel Street, San Pedro. During the warrant service, Chavez was taken into custody without incident, and items related to the shooting investigation were located and collected from the residence. Chavez was later transported to the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station for processing and was subsequently booked at the Robert Presley Detention Center for attempted murder. The victim remains hospitalized in stable condition.

Details:

On Monday, January 22, 2024, Deputies from the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station responded to a report of a gun shot victim in the area of Hemlock Avenue and Pigeon Pass Road in the City of Moreno Valley, Riverside County.  Deputies arrived and located a victim who had been shot.  Paramedics transported the victim to a local hospital.  It was determined that the shooting occurred in the 22000 block of Scarlet Sage Way in the City of Moreno Valley, Riverside County.  Deputies responded to the location of occurrence, contacted witnesses, and located evidence.  The suspect fled before the arrival of deputies and remains at large.

Investigators from the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station responded and assumed the investigation.
