Attempted Murder Suspects Arrested

On Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at 10:29 p.m., deputies from the Perris Sheriff’s Station responded to the 500 block of North Perris Boulevard, Perris, regarding a shooting. Deputies located a victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Perris Station Investigators and members of the Robbery Burglary Suppression Team (RBST) responded and assumed the investigation. They later identified the suspect as John Paul Hernandez, a 37-year-old Perris resident.

On Thursday, April 4, 2024, about 1:20 a.m., Hernandez was located and detained near 2nd and A Street, Perris. The Riverside Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Bureau served a search warrant at a residence in the 400 block of West 3rd Street, Perris. Perris RBST and the Perris Gang Task Force (GTF) searched the property and located evidentiary items related to the shooting. RBST obtained additional information implicating a 2nd suspect, Chayanne Guzman, a 21-year-old Perris resident. At 12:40 p.m., the Perris GTF located Guzman near Ellis Avenue x Highway 74 in Good Hope. Hernandez and Guzman were both arrested for attempted murder and booked into the Cois Byrd Detention Center. This is an ongoing investigation, and no additional information is available.
