On Thursday, June 11, 2020, at 8:20 P.M., members of the Moreno Valley Station, Special Enforcement Team, Gang Unit attempted to contact a subject in the 23000 block of Sunnymead Ranch Parkway, in the city of Moreno Valley. The subject fled on foot and deputies gave chase. After a short foot pursuit, deputies apprehended Alshwan Grier, a 22-year-old resident of Perris and a self-admitted criminal street gang member. Deputies determined Grier was on parole for possession of a loaded firearm. A subsequent search of Grier’s person revealed a loaded 9mm semi-automatic handgun. Grier was taken into custody and charged with being a Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Gang member in Possession of a loaded Firearm, Convicted Felon in Possession of Ammunition, and Parole Hold.
